Science is FUN and all students can participate. Here are some activities, tips, and tricks I have done and learned with teaching a diverse range of students including Deaf, Blind, those dealing with Attention Deficit Disorders, Emotional and/or Behavioral Disorders, and those with Autism to name a few.
Here are some fun Examples of hands on projects you can do with your students!
Tip: Every student is different so the models or projects that they might want to create could use different materials than the examples I have below. But, all projects should have something that represents each part that you want them to know. Middle school projects are going to be different from high school projects. Some students may prefer to draw or create using paper others might want to use clay, or even recycled materials. Let their imaginations soar!
Student Made DNA Model
Low Vision Biology students made a DNA model from a Twizzler that has been skewered, marshmallows, toothpicks, and pipe cleaners. The model is standing in a funnel that has been turned upside down. Hands on models, especially when student created, helps all students understand and show understanding of concepts.
Student Made Cell Model
Blind Life Science students made a model of a plant cell with a shoe box, clay, pipe cleaners, tissue paper, beans, and foam paper.
Student Made Food Web
Blind Ecology Students made models of food webs with ribbon.
Student Made Food Web

Student Made Model of the Earth's Layers
Blind Earth Science students made models of the Earth's inner layers using Styrofoam balls, clay and pipe cleaners
